Two important points!
1. It is important to feel comfortable with your doctor. Sometimes all the questions don't come to mind until after the appointment. If after wards you think of some questions call your doctor and ask.
2. Please seek a second opinion. This doesn't mean your doctor isn't a good one. Your questions are very good questions that should be answered by doctors who are familiar with you and your test results. For your own peace of mind, get a second opinion. Your doctor should have explained these points sufficiently.

pap smear - I am 50 years old and haven't had a period since I was 40. I had a pap smear 2 mths ago and he couldn't collect enough cells, therefore, he did another pap smear. The same results; not enough cells. He said that since my pap smear had been good for the past 5 years that I didn't have to come back for another year for another pap smear. Thirty years ago I had dysplasia and he did a cone biopsy, therefore, I want to keep up to date on my pap smears. Is this normal for this to happen. Will this always happen now with my pap smears? Should I have more testing done?
Thank you,

Connie,
You sound as if you have everything under control. After a better glance at your blog I realize that you have a good chance of not having cancer so my fear for you was somewhat misplaced.
I love to correspond with people from other countries and did not realize you were Scottish. I pray that your health problems do not keep you from your home. No wonder you long for the familiar with all this going on in your life. Get better and go home to your family where they can wrap their loving arms around you. Your passion for your homeland emulates form your writing. I guess I would feel the same if I were anywhere other then the good old US of A and going through a crisis. No wonder I felt your loneliness. You are so far from home. Happy trails bonnie lass.

Linda,
Thank you for your concern, but I'm definitely not going through this alone. I have a large network of family and friends who are all in it for the long haul, come what may. I think you may have gotten the wrong impression because I didn't have someone with me at the Dr. appointment. I had offers. I just didn't feel the need. I do have a pretty lighthearted attitude right now. You may be right; it may be denial, but it's workin' for me. I'm just trying to not put the horse before the cart. If the DX does not come back in my favor I know I'll go through the same trauma and the same stages that every cancer warrior goes through. With four close friends diagnosed in the last few of years I've seen it up close and personal. I don't think anyone ever actually thinks it will be them, though. Right now I'm very much on the fence. Could be, could not be. I won't know anything until the surgery on May 7th. If you are interested, check my blog after that date. I know I'll be blogging about it, no matter which fork in the road the fates guide me down.
My best wishes to you on your own journey through this crazy maze we call life.

Connie,
I enjoyed your post but I felt so sad at my determination that you are going through this alone. I bet you wished Aston would join you. I am a stage III cervical cancer patient and if it weren't for my family and friends by my side I would feel as if life had abandoned me. Don't be afraid to ask for your loved ones to join you in your journey. Also, denial is what we all experience at first. Your mind just cannot adjust to all the information and possibilities of your future or demise (sorry) my reality. Brave helps but fear wins. You will find a balance eventually. I felt as you did at first, thinking everything was fine and how amazing it was that I was taking it so well, then boom big boom. Be ready it is inevitable. Hopefully you DX will not be cancer but if it is call in the troops. You will need more love then you can imagine. My best friend Brenda was send by God and she has held my hand through it all. If it weren't for her. Sorry my love,Gordon(husband) I can't imagine what the untold feelings I safely whisper to her would have done to my spirit. DO NOT DO THIS ALONE!!!!!!! Aston would be nice if he is available
My best to you

Dear Colleagues:

Please note that the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) has changed the name and URL of its patient information website: People Living With Cancer (www.plwc.org) is now Cancer.Net (www.cancer.net). Please update any links going to the Cancer.Net home page to www.cancer.net/patient. While we have done our best to forward any URLs from PLWC, we cannot guarantee that all links will work correctly. Therefore, if your organization has any links to Cancer.Net that go beyond the home page, please update them with the new Cancer.Net URL. Thank you for updating your site’s links to Cancer.Net. For more information, please call 703-519-2927.
